Hurricane Ike hit Houston this weekend. Four days later, half the city’s still without power and people are aching for gas.

It’s crazy to hear people who didn’t prepare properly for the hurricane complain– and boy are they complaining. They’re calling into radio stations, mouthing off in the lines at grocery stores, and flicking each other off in line at the gas station. I don’t understand these people and it amazes me because I personally think our government and its organizations are doing a superb job. Could they be doing better? Sure, but it’s a huge huge HUGE step up from any thing else this nation has seen. Not only that, but they were very good about informing us about it beforehand. If phrases such as “face certain death” are used, you can be sure they’re not kidding.

My grandparents’ house on the Seawall remains to be assessed. We’re hoping to check it out soon.

Our church was also damaged, and it makes my heart sink a little seeing my house of worship torn up.

One thing I will say is that God really did take care of us, and the touch of His hand can be seen through this example. While the pictures above show a SMALL PERCENTAGE of the damage done (you can see the rest in a blog post I wrote for our youth blog) the sanctuary remains totally IN TACT and UNSCATHED:

All in all, I just want to pat Houstonians on their back and commend most of them on their courage and bravery. Whether you evacuated or toughed the night out, we’ve gotten through this well and I know we’ll end up on top.
